My skin is clearer - CONSISTENTLY clearer - than it's ever been ✨You might have seen my reel a lil while ago, where I shared that I'm doing some testing with @happyhormonesforlife, in the hopes of finally combatting my hormonal acne (and other symptoms) once and for all 💜Swipe to find a summary (there's so much more to this, but it's hard to fit on a carousel - I'll write it all up on a blog ASAP) of my results, as well as the strategies we've implemented to solve any issues ➡️I know many people raise their eyebrows at natural/lifestyle-based treatments/protocols. But unless you've tried and failed with all the harsh, conventional, NHS acne treatments and experienced how hard it is to get the system to take women's health/hormonal health seriously, they really wouldn't understand 😂Plus, so far, it's working. My skin is clear, like really clear, other than a few spots when I'm on my period. My ovulation acne has gone, which is absolutely insane, as this was my real problem point of the month 🤯The biggest challenge is minimising gluten. I'm already vegan (for ethical reasons, not health), so limiting my foods even further is suuuuper hard. I also hate inconveniencing other people when I'm at their house 🙃 but if I eat gluten for an entire weekend, I'm usually welcomed to a new week with a painful, cystic breakout. It's clearly disrupting my hormones, and I wish it wasn't, because I love gluteny carby goodness 😭Obviously, these results are personal to me, so don't go thinking you need to cut out gluten or take any of the supplements I've been recommended. 3 things I've been doing to control my hormonal acne post-accutane ✌🏼*Didn't think I'd be filming myself cuddling pasta in my kitchen but hey this is Instagram in 2022* 😄DIM 👉🏼 I've left a link to a blog all about this in my bio if you'd like to know more. Please do your own research before investing in any supplements. What works for me might not work for you (but I hope it does!) 💜 I use @estroblockprotocol.Gluten 👉🏼 I haven't cut it out entirely (I'm also vegan so it'd be so difficult whilst eating out 😅) but when I'm cooking my own food, I'm making it gluten-free. I didn't think it'd have much of an effect, but boyyyy is my skin calmer! I guess I've got a slight intolerance or something, which is just ideal 😭Skin&Me 👉🏼 Honestly if you're going to try one of these 3 things, I'd make it Skin&Me! They create a formulation based on your individual skin concerns and I've noticed improvements all round - less acne, faded scars and a more even skin tone. I've seen a lot of posts about Love Island and its effect on body image (quite rightly), but not any on how it can make you feel about your skin if you've got acne or another skin condition.When my acne was at its worst, Love Island made me feel so shit about how I looked. All the girls on there had flawless skin, 24/7. I'd go upstairs after watching an episode, wipe all the concealer off my skin and think about how ugly I was in comparison. Surreal moment seeing my photo and words in the @telegraph 😅✨I started my blog on a whim a few years ago because I was feeling so down and hopeless about my skin. It was a way for me to connect with others who felt the heavy weight of conforming to beauty standards on their shoulders as much as I did, whilst also sharing everything I've learnt about dealing with a very visible skin condition both practically and mentally 💜I'm still a very, VERY small time blogger (juggling full time job, dog mom life, workouts and still finding plenty of time to work on this as a passion project is still something I'm working on, but I'm getting better 😅), but I'm actually really proud of what I've achieved so far. I've filmed with BBC Sesh twice and seen my words and photos in The Daily Post, The Sun, Yahoo News, Allure, PopSugar and Chester Standard and hopefully helped to squash some acne stigmas (nope, we're not dirty or unhealthy and yes we do wash our faces lol) and spread awareness of the mental health impact of acne in the process. And while I'm still a super inconsistent Instagrammer (guilty...), I've seen my blog traffic go from a few clicks here and there, to consistently get 250+ clicks every single day through acne related Google searches. It makes me happy to know that people are searching for genuine advice and landing on my blog! 👭🏻The #acnecommunity and #skinpositivity movement has been a huge part of my life over the last few years. I think everyone who's sharing their story and encouraging others to be proud of their real skin and appearance, minus all the filters and photoshop, is A M A Z I N G 👏🏻. It's quite daunting seeing my face in the paper like that and sharing such personal stories 😶, but I hope it can help someone else, somewhere, realise they're not alone - AND, in a dream world, help towards gaining better mental health support for those with skin conditions.
